Asterisk Open Source PBX

Sean Kane pointed me to an interesting open source PBX project called Asterisk. Asterisk runs on Linux, needs no additional hardware for VoIP calls, and will work with several POTS cards on the market.

HZ.COM

Here’s a great e-mail portal that is the closest thing to a RIM killer app I’ve seen – HZ.COM. I met Geoff Mulligan, the owner and programmer of HZ at the WirelessVentures conference last week in Redwood City, and found out that Geoff is a USAFA grad and Sun researcher who came up with this great application. What’s really amazing is the ability to track FedEx packages and eBay auctions, get stock quotes, jokes, and all sorts of information from any email device. Geoff’s really onto something here, and I hope to get carriers and/or QUALCOMM interested in helping this application see the commercial light of day.
